Stanley Afful, professionally known as Kwesi The Artist (KTA), is a multiple award-winning Ghanaian visual artist whose practice explores culture, identity, social justice and memory. A graduate of the University of Cape Coast with a BA in African Studies, he examines how storytelling shapes and reshapes identity, often exposing the dangers of “single stories,” as described by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Through photography and creative writing, Stanley challenges assumptions, fosters diverse narratives, and empowers young people to reclaim ownership of their stories. In 2024, he became the first Ghanaian photographer recognized in the WIPO Photography Prize for Indigenous Youth, winning 3rd place for his project on Edur (Pun), a traditional Fante healing practice. His work highlights the resilience of Indigenous knowledge systems, situating them within contemporary discourse.
Stanley remains committed to using visual storytelling as a tool for cultural resilience, social justice, and redefining African narratives.
