Luyanda Danca is a dedicated journalist and
emerging academic, currently completing a
master’s degree in English (Research) at the
University of Johannesburg (UJ), where he
also completed his Bachelor of Arts Honours
Degree in Journalism. He previously obtained his undergraduate degree in Journalism at
Durban University of Technology (DUT) from
2021 to 2023, laying a strong foundation for
his career in media.
Luyanda’s experience includes working on
Vuma FM’s "Mega Grace on Sunday,” show
with Mr Nkwanyana, contributing to the
national TV show “The Big Debate” on SABC, producing videography and photography
content for Nativechild Afrika, and freelancing for Recreate SAas one of the organisers during
the 2025 February International Copyright Conference.
Luyanda Danca also broadened his academic and global outlook through an Erasmus+
exchange programme (Autumn School) at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences in
Germany, where he studied 3D Animation and documentary filmmaking, an opportunity made
possible by the Durban University of Technology (DUT). In addition to his journalist pursuits,
Luyanda is also a creative writer and researcher. He has tutored English 3A&B at the
University of Johannesburg, helping students sharpen their critical thinking and academic
writing skills.
Currently, he is with the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI-NRF-
SAASTA), and will be seconded to the South African Broadcast Corporation (SABC) to
support the implementation of the science journalism programme. His creative work
complements his academic interests, allowing him to explore language and storytelling in
both reflective and impactful ways.
