bio
I am a Tanzanian freelance filmmaker who was born
in Kilimanjaro and raised in various regions of Tanzania.
I developed a passion for storytelling at a young age
and went on to study film and television art at the
University of Dar es Salaam.
I'm using visual art to challenge the powers that prevent
the youth from achieving their dreams and to promote
intellectual, economic, and political liberation for young
people and African communities.
During my time at university, I manage to produce over five films that were considered the best in class due to unique storytelling approach. One of the most notable films is "CHUMBA 61," which explores the topic of neo-colonialism in Tanzania. The film won the Best Director award at the Sanaa Blast Festival at the University of Dar es Salaam and was later submitted to various festivals, where it became a finalist in several competitions. In June 2022, "CHUMBA 61" won the SEMBENE OUSMANE FILM FOR DEVELOPMENT AWARD at the Zanzibar International Film Festival.
