Having moved to South Africa from Angola at the age of 7 was a huge step in my future in storytelling. From a very young age I’ve had the love of visual storytelling. I only discovered the true power of film later on in life when I was already in my late teens, having focused my artistic abilities more in visual arts. Soon I started to notice my desire to tell stories was too strong and the place I saw where I felt the best stories were being told was in cinema.
This then encouraged me to decide to enroll in film School to better my craft at the Tshwane university of Technology in South Africa. There I had the honor of majoring in scriptwriting, working on various professional productions
and learning extensively about the craft of filmmaking. I also had the honor of having my films that I produced in film school showcase at various film festivals and I ended my final year with a best film award.
I later focused more on working in the television commercial space for South African production companies such as Frieze films and Ola Films. Where I managed to learn the art of telling a story well in less than a minute and the attention to detail that Tv Commercials require.
I’ve in 2018 decided to come back to Angola having felt that I had found my voice as a filmmaker and understood what I had to offer the film industry. Which is to tell real authentic African stories, and to make Africa cool again.
A philosophy that focuses on finding and embracing the beauty in the positive or negative. I feel if you love your country or continent, then you can always show things as authentic and make people love African culture like we have liked Italian gangster films, Hollywood films and other cultures that have crossed borders.
This is what I focus on in my production company that I opened when I got back to Angola, called Usovoli Cinema. Be it a tv commercial, fictional project, music video, we always try to show africa as authentically as possible. Making sure the African culture, especially my Angolan culture, is crossing borders for its beauty.
