My name is Sisanda Palesa Dyantyi. I was born in Alice, Eastern Cape. Being from a small town has influenced my love of storytelling. Before I had access to Dstv like my peers, I had my grandmother's stories and riddles. I think this is where my love for writing and creating came from. In high school I became very involved in Drama and Poetry. After much contemplating, I enrolled to study my passion, storytelling. This took its form in filmmaking. For four years I persued a degree in directing and left AFDA an Honours graduate. In my time there, two of my films broke the province's barriers. My third year film, The Walk Home was on Showmax this year (2019) and my fourth year film, Isikhalo:The Outcry, made it onto the list for the student Academy Awards.
I am passionate about authentic African stories that also speak up on issues that are hardly placed on the film platform. Isikhalo, for example, focused on the issue of spousal and to show that that conversation was a ripe one to have - we made it onto the SABC news. In the script that I have submitted I want to open the conversation about womxn, and the intricacies that surround it. I am also passionate about opening conversations about mental health.
I bring passion and a different energy to the table. As someone who is exposed and opened to many walks of life, I wish to be the one to tell one perspective. I am hardworking, friendly, open to learning new things and open to criticism.
In short: I am a young individual who is passionate about South African art, more so in the Film and Television aspect. I am a reliable and responsible Student Leader and employee with conduct and outlooks beyond reproach. I wish to acquire a position within the entertainment industry to exercise and further improve my skills as well as the industry itself.
