My Wheelchair could be described as a throne as I blesse these around me with my zest for life and humility. I’m Sarah Nkgweng, a paraplegic young vibrant lady, who never could have imagined that a driving school could be established in my honor, but im still just yet the most humble individual ever.
This of course after my own humiliating and emotionally painful experience in obtaining my driver’s license. I went through harsh antagonism and faced the worst discrimination but because of my undying spirit, im now on everyone’s lips as the inspiration and reason that helped establish Driving Ambitions Driving School.
When I was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive spinal tumor at 17, I was devastated and thought my life was over and it felt like my whole world came trembling over me because I was given only 3 months to live. But today I’ve made it against all odds and through my struggle, humiliation, shame and discrimination, a life changing driving school (Driving Ambitions) for disabled people was born.
Subsequently I’ve been through a re-diagnosis of tumor, multiple surgeries, radiation therapy, chemo therapy and countless intravenous treatment and as the results I became a paraplegic in 2001 due to effects of the tumor and also the radiation therapy.
It was difficult for me to adapt to the change but today I can proudly say it was all worth it.
In 2010 I was faced with a very difficult situation when I tried to get my driver’s license. I was denied the right to write my learners license and as the result I couldn’t obtain my driver’s license but I just didn’t give up, I fought and struggled until I got justice and today I’ve proven the world wrong and I now have my driver’s license, I’m driving and got my own car.
I’ve proven the world wrong and through my hurt and opposition I gave other disabled people a new independence and opened up opportunities and new dimensions of life for them because Driving Ambitions was born and launched on the 2nd of March 2011 in my commemoration.
I use my life challenges I have faced to empower and encourage others. Change lives, help people to get recognized and respected for their capabilities and help them to find their inner strength because if I could do it, why can’t you.
Disability is not inability, everyone has a disability its just that some disabilities are more visible than others.
Im a fashion bird, I love life and my biggest passion is acting and modelling. I love being out there doing what I love, it completes me. My world is complete.
