The current cohort of interns of the MultiChoice Talent Factory South Africa (MTFza) have been revelling in their internship experiences this year and have been producing some exciting content.
In a behind-the-scenes look at their latest offering, to be aired on Mzansi Magic on 17 June, Areyeng Jozi follows three intrepid young women from Limpopo as they travel to Johannesburg for the first time. The movie promises a thrilling journey of adventure, fun, drama, and self-discovery.
Mapule Moketi, head writer and co-director of the project, shares that they have been gaining invaluable lessons that can only be learned on set. "We've been working hard and are developing a greater understanding of the practical aspects of filmmaking, such as the different roles, how to use the tools at our disposal, and how to stay on schedule."
With the help of their mentors, the interns are appreciating the value of teamwork and how to tackle on-set issues. "We've come out of this experience with a newfound appreciation for the filmmaking process," Mapule adds.
Bubele Monakal, a recent graduate of The Performing Arts from Pietermaritzburg, is among the applicants of the upcoming 2023-2024 MTFza programme. He had made his way to the bustling city of Johannesburg to pursue his dreams and be a part of an industry he loves. However, he soon discovered that success in the industry is far from straightforward and the people he encountered on his journey counselled him to look into the broader range of opportunities that the industry provides. As he followed the MTFza crew, he now knows that his leap of faith to leave his home and travel to Johannesburg is worth it.
Reflecting on his experience so far, he says: “I’ve applied for the MTFza intake this year. The more I see, the more I want in!”
Bubele continues to share that he is eager to learn more about the industry and the different opportunities available. He is inspired by the work that the MTFza crew is doing and is encouraged by their dedication, commitment and the idea that he can make a real difference in the industry and is determined to make the most of this opportunity.
Bubele is insistent to make his mark in the industry and to be part of the MTFza team. As he continues to shadow the crew, he hopes to gain the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the industry and to make an impact in the world of filmmaking.
MTFza interns usually produce four movies in the 12-month programme over and above being a part of major local productions such as Survivor South Africa, Miss South Africa and hit soapies such as Gomorrah!
Areyeng Jozi will be on South African screens on 17 June 2023 on Mzansi Magic channel 161. Keep an eye on the channel to watch the other three movies that have been written, shot and produced under the MTFza banner.
