bio

I am excited to submit my application for the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) program, as it aligns with my passion for animation, CGI, and filmmaking. As a dedicated animator, CGI artist, and filmmaker, I am driven by a desire to tell powerful stories that highlight the diverse experiences of African cultures. The MTF program offers a unique platform to further develop my technical expertise and creative abilities while collaborating with talented individuals from across the continent. My experience in animation and CGI has allowed me to explore the visual storytelling process in innovative ways, combining cutting-edge technology with African narratives. One of my notable works is my short film, Tenes ("Stand"), which reflects themes of resilience and hope. I am currently in preproduction for a full CGI animation that explores the topic of disability, a project close to my heart that I believe can make a positive impact. Through MTF, I aim to enhance my skills and gain the industry insights needed to bring such stories to life in an even more compelling way. In addition to my creative and technical background, I am committed to contributing to the African film industry by using film as a tool to address important social issues and represent diverse voices. The hands-on experience and mentorship offered by MTF would enable me to refine my craft, elevate my storytelling, and develop into a leader in Africa’s creative landscape. Being part of the MTF program would be a significant step in my journey to becoming a well-rounded filmmaker, CGI artist, and animator. I am eager to learn from industry professionals, collaborate with fellow creatives, and ultimately make a lasting impact in the African film industry. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to grow and contribute through this transformative program. Sincerely, Abel Getachew

experience

I am writing to provide an overview of my professional experience in TV show direction, visual effects, CGI animation, and graphic design. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working in roles that have allowed me to refine my skills and contribute to both the television and advertising industries in significant ways. I worked at Balageru TV for 2 and a half years as a TV show director and graphics designer, where I directed over 100 TV studio shows. In addition to this, I created numerous CGI animations and graphics designs for various projects. This experience sharpened my skills in both creative direction and technical execution, allowing me to consistently deliver high-quality visual content. For the past 1 year and 8 months, I have been working at Zeleman Communication Advertising Agency as a visual effects artist and graphics designer. In this role, I have been involved in several high-profile projects, including writing, directing my own short film, Tenes ("Rise Up"), and creating the 1888EC Victory reimagining full CGI animation spot. I also contributed to a famous technology TV show intro, where I played a dual role as both the visual effects artist and director. These projects have helped me merge my storytelling passion with advanced CGI and visual effects techniques, allowing me to bring unique visions to life. With a deep understanding of animation, CGI, and direction, I believe I am well-equipped to further develop my skills and contribute meaningfully to the African media landscape through programs like the MultiChoice Talent Factory. I look forward to leveraging these experiences to continue telling impactful stories that resonate with diverse audiences. Thank you for considering my experience.
